Press Release - South Lincolnshire COVID-19 Vaccination programme
Over the last couple of weeks all our practices have been extremely busy, not only continuing to offer our regular service, but working together at Springfields offering as many people as we possibly can access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
We look forward to seeing many more of you in the coming days and weeks.
The kind words and thanks we have received from you have been truly touching and we are very grateful to everyone in our community for supporting us with this huge undertaking, especially the wonderful volunteers who have given up their time to help us.
We have made huge progress and we want to keep you updated with our plans to get the vaccine to as many people as possible quickly.
In line with Government instructions we have initially focused our efforts on supporting those over 80 years of age and thanks to the dedication of our teams over the weekend we were able to offer vaccines to all care home residents as well. If you are over 80 and we haven’t contacted you yet, please be assured we have not forgotten you and we are doing all we can to get you in the coming days.
This is of course just the start, we are determined to do more, and this week we are pleased to be able to offer twice as many vaccines as last week.
We will be working even harder to reach as many of you as we can as quickly as vaccine supply allows and this means long days and weekends working for our teams, and we cannot thank them enough for their dedication to our local community.
We also recognise that travelling to Springfields in Spalding is not ideal and indeed not possible for some people, however given the constraints placed upon us both by the Government and the specifics of the vaccines themselves we feel we have done everything we can to make the experience as easy as possible, and have appreciated your kind comments and praise for our teams who have worked so hard.
We have also been working hard as practices alongside our NHS colleagues to find more convenient and easy ways to offer you the vaccine, and as such we are delighted that we will this week begin to offer access to the vaccine directly from our practices as well.
Alongside this and to reach as many people as possible, and due to the complexity of the vaccine, we will continue to deliver a large number of vaccines from Springfields. We would ask for you to support us and others in your community by taking an appointment there if you possibly can travel as soon as it is offered.
This will allow us to offer the limited amount of appointments in our practices to people who may not be able to get to Springfields and we would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and help with this.
We will of course continue to try to find ways to ensure as many of you have access to the vaccine quickly and as close to home as possible, but we would ask that if we contact you to offer you a vaccine that you please do all you can to take up the opportunity and not wait.
We hope supply continues to increase to allow us to offer more and more of you the vaccine, and so we can play our part in meeting the national target to offer the vaccine to everyone in the first four cohorts by the middle of February, something that if everyone plays their part we should be able to achieve.
Practices will be contacting you directly and will confirm the location, time and date, as well as everything you need to know in advance. Please do not contact your practice directly; we will be in touch as soon as we can.
Alongside this you may receive communication from NHS England offering you the opportunity to book an appointment at one of the large sites around the country. You do not have to take this option, but if you’d like to and you are able to travel you are very welcome to, but please note you will also receive your second vaccination at the same location in due course.
We have learnt so much in these past few weeks and we will continue to do so to help us improve, but please be assured that we will always put the interests of our communities at the heart of everything we do.
Finally, we would like to thank our teams for their dedication, the volunteers and support teams who have helped and of course our community for your patience.
On behalf of the South Lincolnshire Rural, Market Deeping & Spalding Primary Care Networks.
